RFP for Strategic Planning Services

Summary

Shafer Leadership Academy (SLA) seeks a consultant to support the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders in a strategic planning process to create a three to five-year strategic plan to guide the administrative and programmatic direction of the organization. The consultant will work with a Strategic Planning Task Force made up of 5-6 members of the Board and staff to craft and implement the strategic planning process. The consultant should be comfortable with and have experience in the strategic planning process. The target is to have the strategic plan finalized by the end of March 2019.

Organizational Background

SLA has provided people of all ages, backgrounds and interests access to the tools necessary to develop and enhance their leadership skills for 11 years. Our aim is to provide contemporary leadership training that meets the needs of communities, businesses, nonprofit organizations and private individuals. Our mission is to ensure that individuals who have the desire to demonstrate leadership have access to world class leadership training close to home. We believe that effective and enthusiastic leaders, more than anything else, are the difference between success and failure within the organizations and communities they represent. Our leadership academy and all of our programming is built upon this single idea. 

SLA has grown from a single pilot program serving 24 participants in 2007 to providing 113 programs for 3,026 people in 2017.   Our Community Programs facilitate powerful exercises and enlightening interactions with others so participants can discover what effective leadership for themselves. We help develop people who are a catalyst for change in the communities and organizations they represent. Our Custom Programs provide organizations the unique ability to create a program that fits the individual leadership development needs of its team. By utilizing SLA’s expertise and resources, organizations can construct exactly what they need; from a single day event to a comprehensive staff development program.

Shafer Leadership Academy is guided by a committed Board of Directors and lead by a dynamic two person staff.

Goals of Strategic Planning:

  • Develop overarching strategy for sustainable growth that maintains SLA’s focus on leadership development
  • Identify priority areas for growth and development to serve its diverse clients;
  • Answer key organizational questions;
  • Create prioritized list of goals and strategies
  • Potentially update mission, vision, values.

Scope of Consultant Work:

SLA seeks a consultant who will work with a Strategic Planning Task Force of 5-6 people to craft and implement the strategic planning process. Consultant will lead the organization in information gathering, self-assessment, consensus on plan objectives, and focusing on program and operational priorities. The end product will be an achievable, consensus-driven three to five-year strategic plan that could be easily summarized one on page.

Most importantly, we are seeking a consultant who will candidly, and skillfully, challenge our unknown beliefs and assumptions about Shafer Leadership Academy.

Proposal Process and How to Submit

Applicants must complete the form below by 5:00 pm on Friday August 24th. Proposals will be reviewed the following month with the finalist selected by the end of September.  Applicants may be asked to participate in a brief interview process with Task Force members on September 5th or 6th.
