Ever lost sleep because you couldn’t stop rehearsing a conversation in your head?
Conversations are hard for a number of reasons. Either the stakes are high, the topic is emotionally charged, it’s complicated, or there’s conflict present. Oftentimes, it’s all four. Luckily there is a way to make navigating hard conversations easier. In this interactive workshop, Ariana will share the DNA framework, which utilizes the latest research on the Neuroscience of Conversation. Participants will learn practical tools they can implement immediately at work or home to make hard conversations easy.

About Our Facilitator
Ariana Friedlander, MPA, is an organizational anthropologist, a leadership development expert and an author. She is the founder and principal of Rosabella Consulting and has over 20 years of experience in fostering positive change within organizations and companies of all shapes and sizes including small business, non-profit, government and higher education. Ariana is a master facilitator, Certified Conversational Intelligence® Coach, certified HeartMath Mentor, and trained Breathwork practitioner. She specializes in modeling shared leadership and navigating co-creating conversations that lead to new innovations. She is adamant about walking her talk, which is why she wrote her first book, “A Misfit Entrepreneur’s Guide to Building a Business your Way” with a community of 31 co-creators. Ariana earned her master’s degree in organizational leadership from the University of Delaware. Clients have included the Colorado PGA, Department of Denfense, Water for People, New Belgium Brewing Company, Colorado State University and Promethean. When not working, Ariana enjoys journaling, walks in nature and impromptu dance parties. She lives in Fort Collins, CO with her family.

About Our FacilitatorS
Dr. Courtney Jarrett is the Director of Disability Services at Ball State University (BSU) where she oversees the university’s efforts to provide access and opportunity for approximately 4000 students with disabilities. A triple alum of BSU, Courtney is Affiliate Faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies, teaching several classes at BSU yearly. She authored a textbook, Not Your Momma’s Feminism, in 2016 and the 2nd edition was released in August 2020. She recently published her first children’s book, Muncie Women A-Z. She is a member of the League of Women Voters, American Association for University Women, and a current precinct committee person for her district in Muncie. Dr. Jarrett also has a role with Shafer Leadership Academy as a Community Inclusion Ambassador for People with Disabilities. In her never-ending crusade for work-life balance, Courtney enjoys reading for fun, going to the movies, traveling with her husband & sons, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Emily Karas is a Muncie native and resident. She currently serves as the Director of Graduate Student Success for Ball State’s Graduate School where she oversees three initiatives geared toward professional development and student well-being. Emily earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English Secondary Education from Butler University and a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University. In her sparse free time, Emily enjoys reading, traveling, bodies of water, and spending time with her three kids.

Fusion: Leading Multi-Generational Teams is a hands on journey to a better understanding of generational differences. Join us for our unique signature program at Shafer!
Using our innovative, and proprietary, Generational Game Board, participants will explore the various social, political, and economic influences that shaped the working attitudes of the Greatest Generation, Baby Boomers, Generational X, Millennials and now Generation Z. Our game creates interesting, and informative, conversation among participants from various generations. This workshop will equip participants to be more effective communicators and leaders through understanding the various generations in the workplace today. Our goal is to create “win-win” solutions that promote inter-generational understanding and result in positive workplaces and communities
Fusion is unlike any generational training you have attended. First, our Generational Game Board, is a unique approach to tackling generational differences. We use the Game Board as a tool for helping participants better understand the worldview of each generation. In addition, the Game Board makes for a highly interactive, and entertaining, way to learn.
This isn’t an another Power Point presentation, or “Sage on the Stage” lecture.
The program will fly by as you engage in stimulating conversation about your childhood, your parents, your grandparents, your children and maybe even your grandchildren. This program isn’t about us, it’s about you. Our Game Board helps you make a personal connection to the material.

About Our Facilitator
Tisha Gierhart was hired as Shafer Leadership Academy’s first Program Director in January 2014. She is primarily responsible for all activities related to the development, delivery, and assessment of leadership programs presented by Shafer Leadership Academy. In this role, she focuses on building collaborative relationships with Shafer Leadership Academy’s participants and partners.
Tisha holds a degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has worked in the healthcare field for fourteen years, where she developed her skills in leadership, project management and facilitation. Tisha served as an internal coach for IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where she worked to enhance the patient experience by cultivating a culture of service. Tisha is an alumnus of Shafer Leadership Academy’s Emergence program and has completed Advanced Facilitator Training. Tisha is a Certified John Maxwell Speaker, Coach and Trainer. She is certified in The Leadership Challenge and has over 40 hours of certified coach training. Tisha is an active member in her community where she serves as a board member for the Jay County Cancer Society and is the Co-Chair of the Jay County Cancer Walk. She enjoys volunteering and is a member of the Portland Evening Optimist and Hickory Grove Church of the Brethren. Her work reflects her passion for making a difference, building relationships, and motivating others. She believes in leading by example and developing purposeful connections.

Nichole Linebaugh balances her corporate expertise with a passion for holistic well-being as seasoned professional with 12 years’ experience in Safety, Health, and Human Resources. Holding a 500-hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Yoga Alliance, her yoga journey began in 2013 as a response to stress, evolving in 2016 with a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and the establishment of Nurturing Rose Yoga. In 2020, she achieved a 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training, and in 2023, fulfilled a dream by opening Nurturing Rose Yoga Bin—a converted grain bin transformed into a unique yoga studio, a space to share the healing embrace of nature. She worked at the helm of Leadership’s central programming for more than a decade, overseeing its largest programmatic expansion serving K-12 youth across all five boroughs of New York City, and now trains key leadership skills to professionals across the country—as a keynote speaker and featured presenter at conferences, a trainer and coach within organizations, and an adjunct professor on youth work. SLA in partnership with Muncie Public Library is offering a unique quarterly gathering, highlighting important take-aways from inspirational leadership books. At each event, facilitators will share key leadership development lessons from leadership-focused books. This is not a book club, rather a guided discussion around the key takeaways from each book.
Prior reading of the book is not required but we encourage participants to share about what they learned and check-out one of the books from Muncie Public Library. All participants attending will be entered in a raffle to win a digital copy of one of the books discussed.
All sessions are FREE and open to the public. Registration is required.

Halle Simpson is highly driven, a self-starter and her career path has been pretty non-traditional. She sold knives in college, has a Biology degree from Indiana University (that she’s never used), and for over a decade she drove a pink Cadillac. In that role her responsibilities included: recruiting talent, training hundreds of sales professionals, speaking to the masses and coaching high performers through the challenges of leadership.
Now a globally recognized Professional Certified Coach and Author of the Know Thyself Journal, Halle helps small business owners and leaders find respite from a hustle and grind mindset to consciously curate a business and life filled with joy, peace, balance and growth.
In her down time, she enjoys daily journaling, yoga, massages and watching cooking shows. She resides in Traverse City, Michigan with her Boston Terrier, Marco (named after Marco Andretti) and attends the Indy 500 each year.
