February 18, 2014 – Muncie, IN – Shafer Leadership Academy, East Central Indiana’s nonprofit leadership development institute, was invited to present at the Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICEA) 2014 Winter Conference & Awards Luncheon on February 12, 2014. The conference was held at the Indiana Chamber Conference Center in downtown Indianapolis.
SLA Executive Director Richard Crist presented a program entitled, “Winning Teams Are Built” in two break-out sessions. The primary message of the presentation was that it takes more than talent to create a successful team in business. Participants learned the importance of trust within an organization and how to build it. They also participated in a hands-on exercise that exposed them to their personal learning style and gave them a better understanding of the learning styles of those they work with. This process helps develop a better appreciation for team members with various skills and abilities and can be used to maximize the strengths of everyone on a team. Lastly, Richard discussed how to develop buy-in and reach consensus to move projects forward.
“When we received the call from ICEA about being involved with their Winter Conference, we were excited to discuss the leadership topics their members would be interested in,” stated Shafer Leadership Academy Executive Director, Richard Crist. “Based on the workshop attendance and immediate feedback we received, it would appear the leadership principles we presented were very applicable for the challenges faced by Chamber’s all over the state.”
The Indiana Chamber Executives Association is the leading organization for education and professional development of chamber executives and staff across the state. ICEA represents over 230 chamber professionals representing local chambers throughout Indiana.
