July 11, 2013, Muncie IN – The Shafer Leadership Academy, East Central Indiana’s Community Leadership Academy, recently announced the addition of two new board members. Eric Lindley and Joann McKinney are the newest board members to help SLA see vibrant communities and workplaces developed within East Central Indiana supported by skilled, collaborative and engaged leaders.
Governed by a board of volunteer directors, The Shafer Leadership Academy is a community leadership academy where people of all ages, backgrounds and interests can access the tools necessary to develop and enhance their leadership skills. Our aim is to provide expert and useful leadership training that meets the needs of East Central Indiana communities, businesses, civic, and not-for-profit organizations and private individuals.

Eric Lindley
VP & Regional Trust Manager, Old National Wealth Management
Mr. Lindley is Vice President and Regional Trust Manager for Old National Wealth Management in Muncie, In. He joined Old National in 2008 after practicing law in the areas of general business law, civil litigation, estate planning, and probate administration. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2005. He also holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Marketing and M.B.A. in Finance from Anderson University where he graduated with honors. Mr. Lindley is a member of the Indiana State Bar, where he is licensed to practice law before the Indiana Supreme Court, U.S. District Court of Northern Indiana, and U.S. District Court of Southern Indiana. He is also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Muncie Bar Association. Mr. Lindley teaches as an adjunct professor at Anderson University and serves on the boards of Hoosier Academies Muncie and Inside Out Community Development Corporation. He is a native of Muncie and currently resides in Pendleton with his wife and two children. Eric is also a graduate of the Emergence Leadership Program (class #4 – Fall 2009) through the Shafer Leadership Academy.
Joann McKinney
President/CEO, Horizon Convention Center
Ms. McKinney has directed the efforts of Muncie/Delaware County’s Horizon Convention Center since 2000, managing as many as 35 staff, a $28-million facility and an annual budget of over $2-million. During her tenure, the facility has hosted an average of 360 events annually and generated approximately $7 million in economic impact to the community each year. Prior to working at the convention center, McKinney worked in sales and marketing positions with Rutter Media and the Muncie Visitor’s Bureau in Muncie, and with Caldwell VanRiper – a marketing communications firm in Indianapolis. McKinney holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Arizona and continues to invest in professional educational opportunities — most recently completing a three-week course focused on senior executive leadership from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. She is active in the community serving as an elected official on the town council of Daleville, Indiana from 1996-2004 and is a founding board member of the Daleville Community Library. McKinney is a board member of the Muncie Rotary Club and currently serves as chair of the club’s International Service committee. McKinney and her family have hosted several exchange students through Rotary International and she currently serves on the Rotary Youth Exchange committee for her club, working to secure host families and coordinate activities for the in-bound students each year. She has volunteered with the United Way in various capacities throughout the past decade and was Chair of the 2012 campaign.
